Sergeant Ferguson arrives on the “Vital Spark” with a warrant for Dan MacPhail’s arrest. He is being taken to court for arrears of maintenance ... for his wife. Dan’s fellow crewman know nothing about his wedding, but there’s a surprise in store for them - and Dan as well.

While in the Sound of Mull on 31st October awaiting the arrival of a dubious cargo, Dan’s whinging tests the patience of Para who conspires with Dougie to put the frighteners on the two Lowlanders in the crew.

With the future of the “Vital Spark” in peril from a vindictive sheriff officer, Para turns to royalty for a wee helping hand, but is almost undone by Dan and Dougie’s drunken shenanigans, not to mention Sunny Jim’s careless talk about rats.
